I purchased this book as an Audible book and what I took from this well investigated piece of journalism is that Ms. Ward really was able to get into the psyche of this couple pretending to be something they're not.Kushner Inc. The couple known as Javanka.As Ivanka's father does things more out in the open, the Javanka duo flies under the radar wreaking havoc with our systems of checks and balances that have been in place for more than two centuries. The damages, the secret dealings, etc... Javanka may have been able to unsettle the "norms" that we have built with blood sweat and tears all in the name of the selfish almighty dollar. If you thought Kushner Inc.'s 666 Park Avenue was a boondoggle, we may all hopefully (thank you Robert Mueller et alia.) find out that we have all just been flimflammed like nothing before.

So far the only other review is someone who gave it one star because they personally don’t like Kushner. Well, if you don’t like Kushner, you’re going to love this book. It’s very juicy and full of interesting details. Like the fact that Jared‘s father, Charles Kushner, used to visit New York City under a fake name to have relations with men.

Corruption with a CAPITAL C......The book is remarkable, Mr and Mrs Pretty Boy....running our Country, their way......the corrupt way with lies, and greed...to gain everything they can at any cost to the American people and the Country. ..It's all about them, and let me tell you ...Clorox can't produce enough to clean out the filth they will leave behind....Thanks for the book of honesty and a partial picture of a Very Corrupt, Self Serving Family.

To paraphrase the author, on the dangerous scale, Jared & Ivanka are #1 & #2 with Donald Trump, as terrible as he is, coming in at #3. Imagine that. While Donald Trump is acting out, getting all of the attention, these two are like sharks below the surface, making policy in the Middle East in order to make the Saudi's happy and being paid personally & handsomely for that policy". It's like Donald Trump is running cover for Jared & Ivanka. The biggest question remains. How much longer is the Republican Party going to allow this kind of nepotism and corruption to continue?

Journalist Vicky Ward's new book, "Kushner Inc: Greed. Ambition. Corruption. The Extraordinary Story of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump", is a fast read about two people at the center of the Donald Trump administration. Though the book is about both Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, the publicity about the book seemed to stress more information about the Kushner family. The first three or so chapters are devoted to the Kushner family history - from Joe and Rae Kushner's experiences in Holocaust Poland to their emigrating to the United States in the mid-1940's and Joe's development into a real estate tycoon in New Jersey. Ward has a way of presenting facts that are more than slightly insinuate the the Kushner family - particularly Jared's father, Charlie - have not always practiced real estate on the up-and-up. And their familial relationships are both loving...and pathologically destructive. The reason for Charlie Kushner's time spent in prison in Alabama for a couple of years is both amusing and horrifying at the same time. (Just think "hooker", "brother-in-law", "photos" and "blackmail" and consider what might come. )Most of Ward's book concerns Jared and Ivanka's (or "javanka") time in the 2016 election and working as unpaid advisors for Donald Trump in the White House. Some of the things I knew, others I didn't. Things - and people - change so often in the Trump White House and they seem to lurch from crisis to crisis on a daily basis, that whatever Ward writes today may be out-of-date by next week. But the book is fun to read and while I think that's the writing is a bit hurried, I can recommend "Kushner, Inc". (I'd also advise counting your fingers after you shake hands with any of the Kushners...)

Bridge's Oil is an excellent overview of the marketplace for oil, its position within a country's energy portfolio and the political aspects of each stage of production, marketing and consumption.Highly detailed and oriented toward readers with some exposure to economics, this book was probably aimed at college undergraduates but anyone with an interest in this topic can learn a great deal. Even though the writing is academic in style it actually flows really well. While it is possible to quibble about a historical error or two those mistakes are not critical to understanding the subject. Instead, my only real complaint is that the book could have used some more graphs and illustrations.I liked this title enough that I would buy others from this author and the other books in the series.

Her only concern is getting drafted into the army, but she knows that it's better for her to volunteer herself than to sacrifice her intelligent brother who is studying for a bright future at the University or her fragile sister who is prone to illness. All of that changes when she inadvertently uses magic by speaking a single word. Elena is a loyal citizen to her kingdom and would never dream of attempting to read or write because she knows how dangerous it can be. Therefore, she never dreamed she would be forced to join the Academy and study with other mages about magical powers that she shouldn't even have to begin with.The book reminds me a little of Shannon Hale's Princess Academy because both books are about common girls who are permitted to attend school and learn the value of education due to a discrepancy in their kingdom's laws. In Elena's case, however, writing without the ability to control it results in dangerous outbursts of magic that can cause a lot of people to get hurt, so her kingdom is probably better off without educating their commoners. She must figure out the source of her powers quickly so she doesn't cause damage toward the people and structures around her. Having such a unique skill does not win her a lot of friends at the Academy. Since magic typically only runs in noble bloodlines, many students look down at her for her common heritage. Fortunately, she does make one friend named Coralie who helps her maintain her sanity throughout her many trials and tribulations at the Academy.Among the most powerful families at the school who are determined to make Elena feel unwelcome is Prince Lucas. Lucas comes off as a jerk at first, but his true intentions are revealed later on as he shows concern for Elena's safety in his own way. Lucas will have to grow a lot as a character to become worthy of Elena's affections because this book just doesn't cut it in terms of romance. His friends do everything in their power to hurt her physically and mentally while he just watches as an impartial observer. Lucas clearly wants Elena to get out of dangerous situations on her own and master her abilities, but he never stands up for her to his extremely mean and violent friends. It isn't fair to Elena for him to try to play both sides.Voice of Power is a unique concept and a decent start to The Spoken Mage series. However, it wasn't quite strong enough to make me want to read the next book. Too much of it was only about how miserable Elena was in her classes and how she didn't fit in at the Academy. It might have hit a little too close to home by reminding me of my own high school experiences. Melanie Cellier usually excels at romance, but Lucas was not an appealing enough character for me to root for him to get together with Elena. The only saving grace for me was the relationship between Elena and her best friend Coralie, but Coralie was never present when Elena was in real danger. I hope that she will have a bigger role in the later books and that Prince Lucas will take more initiative with his intentions.

If you bothered to see the premise of this book, why are you reading this review? Go get this book! Is the blurb not captivating enough! Though Ms. Cellier has never strayed from her fairytale-retelling genre before, I'm glad she found the idea for this brilliant new storyworld. I'm ever so glad she formed it into a brand-new series of fantasy books for us to read! I mean, this entire world is built on a foundation of words. Writing magic. That should be enough to lure in any number of writers. And the main protagonist, Elena of Kingslee, is a girl with the power of speaking magic. The world-building was fantastic. The author carefully explains to us the way of the written word and how life goes at the Academy... speaking of which, I love stories that take place at a special school for special people! Although I definitely would have liked to see more of Elena's friends-- Coralie and Finnian-- as they seemed somewhat eclipsed by the presence of Prince Lucas. He... Lucas... was not the type of hero that I'm used to from this author. Of course, all of Miss Melanie's heroes are very different in their own ways, but the romances are not quite as... forced? I just thought that Lucas and Elena seemed to have too much of a weak base attraction to be so prominent in the ovearching story. So, sadly I do have to take half a star off for the romance. Overall, VOICE OF POWER is really good. I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone. I've already pre-ordered the second book-- at least I can reconcile myself for having to wait SO LONG for the last of the Beyond the Four Kingdoms series by this same author... As usual, her book is very clean. Some minor violence and romance, but it is astoundingly clean in comparison to most young adult fantasy. Of course, magic is used in this book, but I personally had no problem with it. I applaud Melanie Cellier for creating another riveting fantasy world and a wonderful story! 4.5 stars.

Elena is one of the Commonborn. The Commonborn aren't allowed to learn to read or write, because power comes through the written word, and it's thought that those of common birth wouldn't be able to control the power if it's unleashed. Elena is different. Without being sure how it happened, Elena spoke and power - controlled power - flowed out from her. She is immediately taken from her family to the Academy, where mages are taught to use and control their power. There are those in the kingdom who aren't happy that Elena is at the Academy, or even alive.Elena has to fight to prove she deserves to be at the Academy, and even for her very life!

The concept is intriguing: in a world where written words are power, a young commoner finds that while she cannot control the power of her writing, her spoken words can sometimes have power similar to the written words of other mages. Unfortunately, the writing and world building doesn't live up to the concept especially in the first half of the book. The main character is all to aware of how writing and reading makes a difference, and all to aware of the implications of a literate society, even though she has been forbidden to learn to read. Her observations are too spot on; too much of the author, living in our modern literate society, leaks through. Naturally she would be somewhat aware of the disadvantages the commoners face, but she's too aware of how it would work if she could read and write. It's not just that she knows the mages are able to do better in business because they can read and write, but she understands exactly what advantages their records give them. Also, somehow pictograms and symbols on maps (as well as pictures) are OK, even though words are not. Where's the boundary around what is a word? It seems like that could be exploited for a lot of business records and even simple messages. Suspending disbelief was hard because of this sloppy implementation of the concept.Yet the second half of tdhe book held together, and I think that I will enjoy the rest of the series.

Absolutely love this book. I have used it and modified many of the recipes to my own liking. Worth the read and use.

Very well written and easy to follow. The author's passion for chocolate enthusiastically exudes, making the recipes that much more tantalizing.

The Chocolate Chocolate Chip cookies were deep, dark, and to die for. Discovered Cocoa Nibs (had never heard of them) after reading all about 'em! Given the size of the cookbook (smaller that I'm used to) the font and text size, formatting is clear and makes it easy to follow the directions. Lovely photography, too. As well as fascinating info and stats on chocolate. Have at least 16 other recipes bookmarked for baking one of these days. Can't wait! Bring on the holidays!

A chocolate lovers book!

If you like chocolate then you will love this book. I've made several recipes and have loved every one of them. Rich and indulgent are two words to best describe these desserts!

When you say don't judge a book by the cover or the many pages inside it's a lie especially when it applies to a cookbook full of receipe for chocolates deserts! I am glad I bought it, I am planning on learning to make chocolate souffles and the many other yummy looking chocolate desserts. I highly recommend it. It's a girly cookbook so buy it for your girlfriends and wives!

For example in the market for kidneys, on-line dating services, selection processes used in placing high school students in NY and Boston and universities in general and similar such markets. The book is interesting in many ways. One is the description that Dr. Roth provides on these markets that are so ignored in economics departments. He provides a decent discussion and analysis as to how they work. In addition he provides a discussion as to what variables affect them (i.e., depth of market, speed required for decision making, etc.) and how. Based on this readers can see what constitutes good and badly functioning markets in these areas. An excellent discussion of these, all the more important, as stated previously, that their existence is barely even mentioned in economics classes.In addition, there is also some discussion relating to institutions and how they are important to well-functioning markets in these areas. This part of the book, however, is relatively weak. It is too short and hence lacks the really in-depth discussion that is really needed. This is also ironic in that the institutional structure of these markets is very important to their functioning.Regarding the audiobook, its reader sounds very much like Dr. Roth. This includes his inflexions, tone, etc. It reminded me of him as I had him as a student. The reader probably attended a lecture or two of his.In conclusion, a very good book for those interested in the functioning of non-price markets.

Who gets what and why gives the reader an idea about how careful structuring of a market place can lead to great improvements in efficiency. The field that the author received the nobel prize in has been growing in importance over the last few decades and there is no doubt that design of market places is something policy makers from the macroeconomic down to the microeconomic sphere should care about. In this book, Alvin Roth goes through examples throughout his career where improving market design has led to better systems for people to live in. It is clear and interesting.The book is split into 4 parts, the first is titled Markets are everywhere. The author starts by describing markets and goes through commodity ideas and how standardizing of products leads to markets that are thick. He discusses how commodity exchanges were set up in the US in Chicago for example and how wheat trades enormous volumes in a standardized fashion. He discusses the coffee market as well which is a nice little insight. The author then moves on to discussing the market for kidneys; an exchange he helped to create. Here is where the reader starts to really get a feel for the work the author has done. The complexity in coordinating kidney transfers is real and the construction of chains of donors who could trade kidneys amongst them in a mutually dependent way turned out to be able to save many lives. The author discusses how the kidney exchanges evolved and how improving the mechanisms for exchange was in everyone's interest.The second section is titled Thwarted Desires in which he describes some market failures. The author starts by discussing how in situations in which there is a first mover advantage, market places can fail as participants try to beat each other in order even though by taking such an action they reduce the amount of information needed to make a decision. Such coordination failures lead to suboptimal selections by both parties. The author discusses some of the subject matter of Flash Boys and by that I mean high frequency finance. He describes why the spending of billions on infrastructure for speed of trading which has no real economic benefits are where markets can also fail. Speed of markets should not in and of itself be the desire for market design. The author finally touches upon making markets safe to transact in such that the rules of the market place are adhered to so that people can trust the mechanism of trade.The author moves into the real market designs that are being used by medical and school systems in part 3. He first discusses how the placement of medical schools was flawed and people were being placed far too early but such an outcome was the inevitable consequence of the issues of part 2 where first mover advantage ruined coordination. The author discusses surgeons as well as urologists and how the culture of the medical field can impact the required solutions to the failures of a market place. The author then discusses the school systems in NY and Boston where he had a direct impact on improving. He discusses the preference list that were being asked of students each year and how the back and forth between students being selected and the city system led to congestion that was inefficient for everyone. The author also discussed Boston which had different problems. But in this section the reader gets a sense of how clever design of markets can lead to better outcomes for everyone.The author then gets into some ethical issues like repugnant markets and brings up horsemeat in California as banned due to its repugnancy by the population in California. The boundaries of what should be eligible for trade are contextual to time and place and things like organs for sale and surrogacy can lead to questions about what broad set of values does the population have and given that what should be allowed to be traded and under what conditions. Once we know what goods and services we want to be transactable having the best market designs to facilitate will lead to better outcomes for those involved. The author convinces the leader through the book that market design can be instrumental in efficiency gains.Who gets what and why is very readable and interesting. Rarely do people talk about market design so its a nice change of pace for a popular economics book. I think anyone who reads this will have a better idea about some of what economists look at as well as how market design can make a world of difference to the outcomes of the marketplace and free market can mean many different things as markets are not all alike.

When I studied economics, I thought it was incredible irrelevant in many ways. It just didn't match what I experienced and observed in the real world. Thankfully, since then, the field of behavioral economics has grown dramatically to help explain the reality of markets. That's why I found Dr. Roth's book very fascinating.For some of the markets explored in the book, I felt I almost needed a scorecard to keep track of the "who gets what and why." Far from being a flaw in the writing, it truly illustrated just how complex some markets are... and how increasingly complex some of them are becoming. Pity the poor folks for whom these market situations are an everyday reality. (I especially had sympathy for the parents who had to make school choices for their children. Looked more akin to gambling!)I think this book has some great insight for the some of the new "sharing" markets where money may not be a deciding factor.It may not be quick read due to the extreme amount of explanation that was sometimes necessary to describe the various markets. But definitely a treat for those who like to dig into behavioral economic issues.

I am not writing this review to get into a battle of wits with anyone over race or over class or any other social stigma. This is a book review and this review in whole is all about this book. I found the inconsistency with which this book was written was what aggravated me. I understand why the book was written the way it was. I am not going to cite spelling errors. I get that the author was trying to stay true to form when it came to her character.What irked me were the language inconsistencies. One page four of this book (at least on my copy) the book states "As my mother would say." On page seven the book goes on to say "That's what my Muver call women..." It is the same character speaking and yet the language is formal and then slang. It was changes in the patterns of speech the main character used to tell her story that drove me crazy in this book.This story is very graphic, and at times a harsh book to read. I wish I could have found it as enthralling as so many others did, but from a purely literary standpoint, I thought the writing was terrible.

This book was so much more than I expected and I had expected an excellent book. I'm pretty familiar with Tommy's climbing history, the kidnapping and the Dawn Wall epic. Still, Tommy went so much deeper than many sports autobiographies. This book ranks in my top 10 biographies of all time. I went to Tommy's presentation at the Patagonia store in San Francisco and discovered that he is an excellent speaker as well, not flashy, but entertaining and engaging. I would say the same thing about this book-it's engaging, entertaining and excellent!

There are many negative reviews linked to this book; however, they are referring to another book of the same name and different author. The CLIMBING book The Push by Tommy Caldwell had great flow from past to present and was well written. I thoroughly enjoyed this book cover to cover and slowed down when I got to the Dawn Wall send because I didn't want it to end. My husband has a strong desire to climb big walls and alpine climbs, while I enjoy single pitch sport climbing (scared of heights). I felt like I was there on the wall with them.

Wow. I knew Tommy Caldwell had a life made for a book like this. How could you tell that life story and not fascinate? But Caldwell digs deep, far beyond what was necessary to write an entertaining book. Reflections on life, death, faith, risk, beauty, love are rarely smarmy, and often revelatory--for the author as well as the reader. This is not only the best climbing book I've read, but also one of the best memoirs.

Its another book which I considered reading after Alex Honnold's " alone on the wall" and I would say this is way better. I had seen some clips of Tommy Caldwell's climb on dawn wall but reading this book does the justice of feeling the actual thrill of being on the wall. Also I believe Caldwell's life is pretty inspiring . Every time he went through a bad patch ,he had converted that to his advantage doing extraordinary things.

This was really quite an incredible book. Tommy is a very talented writer, in addition to being a remarkable climber. The memoir does a very good job of mixing the personal aspects of his life with the adventurous parts in a way that lets you see how his perspectives and priorities evolved as he got older. I climb so I am already familiar with all of the climbing jargon in this book so I can't be objective, but I thought he did a very good job of defining it, and with explaining some of the history around the climbs.If anyone reads and enjoys this book, there is a documentary called Valley Uprising that came out a few years ago. It's the history of climbing at Yosemite Valley and digs deeper than this book does. This was a little before the free climb of the Dawn Wall. I don't remember if Tommy is featured in it or not, as the movie spends a lot more time in the 60s and 70s, but some of the supporting characters in his book are, like Dean Potter and Alex Honnold.

Very disappointed in this book even though I am a big fan of TC and wear his shoes. 30 percent of the book is unapologetic cut and paste from his first book, it was painful to have to relive the angst over the girlfriends and the kidnapped drama all over again. I have never seen this quantity of cut and paste reprinting before in a book, I felt very ripped off by the lack of effort put into this. I've followed his career, he has things to write about!!! This could very well be categorized under "young adult romance" instead of climbing. This will most definitely not earn a place on my shelf next to "Solo Nanga Parbat" and my Boardman/Tasker Omnibus.

Wow...The Push is a job well done...it is a story about climbing and life and oftentimes very intense experiences. The Push is written in such a way that anyone can embrace it whether you climb or not. I found the author to be very open and honest and details out an exhilarating account of human will, frailty, closed mindedness and open mindedness, focus, dreampower, work ethic and of individual and group growth.The Push is one of the most incredible books I've ever read...I almost hated it to end.This is an adventure and a journey not to be missed.

I am not a climber, but this book was superb. If you enjoy books about what drives extraordinary people to accomplish great things then this will be of interest. Caldwell is an interesting guy and the book is extremely well written. I hated to finish it!
