This is a must have for all children to read. I've tried a few different spiritual books geared towards kids, but all end up being put down and never returned to again. Not this time! Not only does the author cover so many concepts that I try to share with my children (and grown ups in my life as well), but she does it in an engaging book with chapters just long enough to keep attention, filled with examples and analogies that make these ideas so easily understood. There are questions and exercises at the end of the chapters that make it so easy to discuss the topics presented and be sure we all really think about what each idea means to us and a way to share with each other. From the law of attraction to the power of now, so many basic and important concepts are described and shown with actual useful examples of how to apply to real life situations. The idea of your body being a car that you'll have for the entire time as you, so be very aware of how you treat it and take of it makes so much sense. Ideas and examples of how to love yourself, understand bullies, forgive, turn negative thoughts to positive and make good choices are just a few of the nuggets of wisdom this book offers up! Not only is it a great way to reinforce or introduce these ideas to children, but it is a great reminder to us grownups of how to live our best lives, as we came here to do, as well. I'm so grateful Becky Cummings was guided to create this book and I am so excited to discover what she creates next!

Hi Becky It's your former square peg Sierra. I'm in love with your book. I remember the days when we just talked about becoming authors. Now you are one! The love of God just radiates from Becky's book. Becky was my tutor for about eight years and continues to lovingly push me out of my comfort zone. I hope her book inspires you to do the same and be yourself. Remember that Gods will for you is better than anything you could have come up with on your own. He knows you better than you know yourself. I promise you won't be disappointed of what He has in store for you. Peace be with you allLove Sierra

Unfortunately, I will most likely be returning this book. I bought it based off of the positive reviews but after looking through it I noticed there were a few things that were not to my liking. For example, when I paged threw the book and opened to a page that had foods that you should eat to be healthy and foods you should stay away from. On that list of foods you should stay away from there were things such as yogurt cheese and eggs. Sorry, I may be a bad mom, but we eat plenty of these things in my house. I got the impression after that that it was one of these books that had a very one-sided health conscious biased to it. It is for these reasons that this book would not be on the top of my list of desirable readers.

We love this book! I have 6 and 8 year old daughters and we’ve been reading this together for the past few nights. The chapters are short and sweet and keep the kids attention the whole time. There are couple questions at the end of each chapter and we all take turns answering them. There are no right or wrong answers. It’s a great way to connect with your little one while helping you teach them about the magic in them!

The Magic of Me took me on a journey with my child that I wasn't even aware I needed. Such a positive and fulfilling experience to read together about these important issues and questions and have them be discussed in such a perfect way. I caught my mind a few times thinking, "I couldn't have put it better myself." This book was such a great blend of spirituality and self awareness. I truly believe it helped my mother/daughter relationship grow even stronger. I commend the author on a job well done and look forward to reading more from her in the future.

I enjoyed reading this book. It's laid out very well for kids and parents to read together. It is divided into chapters with questions and exercises at the end of each chapter to reinforce the ideas in the chapter. Ms Cummings' book introduces the basics of the law of attraction to kids using occasional personal examples in an understandable way. This book truly is a handbook for living a great life and should be in every child's hands.*Note that the use of the term "God" is used, so depending on the reader's spiritual higher power beliefs, this might conflict. However, there is a chapter explaining the author's beliefs regarding this.

Enjoyed this beautiful book! As a former teacher, I always knew there were missing elements to the curriculum of our youth. Topics in this book such as the mind, body, spirit, nutrition, connection with Mother Earth, having power within ourselves, energy to manifest greatness, silence etc. and how that is so critical and needed for our success, inside and out. This book is beautifully written, easy to read and even has journals at the end of each chapter which is a marvelous way for reflection. It was even a nice refresher for me and would’ve been a perfect asset to my class way back then. Now I can’t wait to share it with my daughter once she’s old enough. Thank you for writing this sweet book!

I believe there are many valuable lessons in this book for young readers, though I think this book is best read as a family so that you can discuss the topics with your children. Lessons on bullying, forgiveness, friendship and self love encourage young readers to see things from another perspective and to learn from the author's life experience.Keep in mind, this book is a spiritual guide, so chapters on angels, God and Jesus are included. Though I tend to lean to the scientific over the spiritual, I believe there is value in listening to other points of view. What one considers God, another may consider nature. In the end, both may be explaining the same thing...an unknown. Either way, the author explains "Your job is to listen and consider any ideas presented to you, but to find your own truth" (pg. 143). One of the many valuable lessons coming from the pages of The Magic of Me.

Matthew Polly is an interesting writer. When he was younger he travelled to China to study Kung Fu at the legendary Shaolin Temple. His narrated the experience in his book " The American Shaolin" - perhaps one of the best books on martial arts ever. Having thoroughly enjoyed the book, I looked forward to read his 2nd book on MMA. I must say that he didn't disappoint me at all. What gives credibility to Polly is his willingness to put himself through brutal training of MMA, BJJ, Muay Tai, Sambo, etc in order add authenticity to his book, as he did in his first book. He even takes part in an amateur MMA fight so to better understand what goes in the bodies and minds of the fighters in the MMA's Octagon. While his experience alone makes in worth buying the book, the reason for 5-star rating lies in the strength of his writing. His writing style veers toward self-deprecation, eschewing the massive ego and the macho BS of the typical martial artists and fighters. His writing often hilarious but at the same time displays a surprising intellectual depth in analysing the sports or human behaviours. All in all a hugely satisfying read for an intelligent MMA / martial arts fans.

Reading this book took me back to memory lane and my own development training in numerous martial arts. When the Gracie family first became known in the United States before the beginning of the UFC challenges I was fortunate enough to have attended two seminars in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu when they were in the Chicago area. Even though I was already a ranked black belt in Judo and Shotokan Karate at the time, I learned a lot at those seminars working with Rorian, Royce and Rickson Gracie. This interesting and entertaining book (Tapped Out by Matthew Polly) provides an insiders look at what the mixed martial arts is all about. The author trained for two years for his first fight in order to get first-hand experience for this book he was writing. This 280 page hardcover book is organized into three sections. You will meet some of the legendary mixed martial art fighters in this book which is just one of the many things I liked about this book. The first section (Act 1 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) the author explains Kung-Fu Panda, Descendants of Hercules: MMA 101, Gracies don’t tap, and other stories. The second section (Act 11 Muay Thai and Sambo) the author relates his experiences such as Bangkok Vice, Nursery school, there will be blood and other incidents. The final section (Act 111 Mixed Martial Arts) was the most interesting to me because the author finally loses enough weight and trained hard enough to finally have his first fight. I am not going to give away more than that.If you are an ultimate fighter and mixed martial arts fan you should check out this book. I thought it was a great read, but then I am a crazy lifetime student of the martial arts which makes me not the most objective guy when it comes to anything to do with training in the way of the warrior.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: The Samurai Soul: An old warrior’s poetic tribute)

Perhaps every MMA or UFC fan has secretly wondered what it would be like to walk into the Octagon, strap on 4-oz. gloves and hear "Big" John McCarthy say to them, "Let's get it on!"Author Matthew Polly takes this Walter Mitty fantasy to literal levels in his newest book, TAPPED OUT. Polly is no stranger to participatory sports journalism in the George Plimpton vein. His earlier book, AMERICAN SHAOLIN, chronicled his apprenticeship in Chinese martial arts while living and studying at Shaolin Temples. Here, Polly undertakes to transform himself from a 240-lb. schlub into a ripped and buff mixed martial artist, and to do so in his late 30's. A tall order! To get ready, he plans to assemble various pieces of his MMA arsenal - grappling, jiu-jitsu and striking. He offers an insider's perspective on some of the Mecca's of MMA training. He begins with Renzo Gracie's jiu-jitsu academy in New York City. Je comes under the tutelage of BJJ guru John Danaher. When Polly notices that Renzo never seems to be around, he asks one of the instructors about it, inquiring as to what exactly Renzo does at the gym. The answer, "He collects the money."After working on some semblance of a ground game, Polly then gravitates to the domain of Phil Nurse, the eminent Muay Thai coach to learn the rudiments of striking and kicking. With every bruised rib and sore leg, the reader empathizes with Polly's gritty attempts to transform himself into a fighter. From New York City, Polly then ventures to the Capital of MMA, Las Vegas, where he signs on to train at Xtreme Couture, the lair of the legendary Randy Couture. Here, Polly plans to "put it all together" in order to get ready for one amateur MMA fight organized in Sin City by an outfit called Tuff-E- Nuff.MMA fans will enjoy some of the insider scuttlebutt that comes through in Polly's narrative. For example, you get the impression that Georges St. Pierre is a genuinely nice guy, as his Randy Couture. You also get the impression that many MMA insiders find Matt Hughes to be a dick.TAPPED OUT builds to a climax as Polly sweats and suffers to make weight at 185 lbs. and to take on in an amateur exhibition a striker who trains at Nellis Air Force Base outside of Vegas. Can a dilettante like Polly - whose mid-section muffin top might earn him the MMA moniker Roly-Polly - survive in the Octagon against a younger opponent?(No spoilers here. You'll have to find out yourself by reading TAPPED OUT.)Matthew Polly has a fun sense of humor and, while he takes his quest seriously, he does not take himself seriously. His humor is a breath of fresh air and he does not try to come across as any modern day "American Samurai."If you are an MMA fan, you owe it to yourself to read TAPPED OUT. It is a quick read, I thoroughly enjoyed it, though your mileage may vary. Even if you are not a UFC or MMA fan, TAPPED OUT makes for an engaging and entertaining read.
