A native of Richmond, Virginia, Erin Bomboy trained as a classical ballet dancer before spending a decade as a professional competitive ballroom dancer. She holds an MFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from New York University Tisch School of the Arts. She lives in New York City with her husband and daughter where she works as a writer, editor, and teacher in the dance field. In her free time, Erin enjoys bacon, books, cats, and wine.She is the author of The Piece: A Contemporary Ballet Novel and The Winner: A Ballroom Dance Novel. Her next novel, tentatively titled The Pas de Deux: A Classical Ballet Novel, will explore the relationship between a ballerina at the end of her career and the much-younger dancer with whom she falls in love. Ballroom Dance fan or not, this is a great read. Comedic in parts, it was also filled with the pathos and complexity of real life. Even though my dancing experience is almost nil, I enjoyed and easily followed the adventures of the two main characters: one woman just entering the dance world, and the other a veteran of that world. The author brought the NYC setting to impressive life, including its ethnic roots. Love in many forms - whether it involved parents and children, romantic lovers and friends, rivals and competitors - were explored in exquisite detail. Meanwhile the story pace was fast, and kept me turning the pages well into the night. The author, Erin Bomboy, is a wonderful talent. Her descriptions were especially on pointe (yes, pun but true.) The dialogue reflected the background and experiences of every character, male and female alike. Reading this book was like watching a movie in my mind, a wonderful movie in all its technicolor glory. I like independently published books because I dislike the cookie-cutter plots that are so prevalent in regular publishing today. My faith in the Independents is absolutely confirmed and even surpassed by the quality of this book. Thank you, Erin Bomboy. The writing and presentation of THE WINNER blew me away. It deserves to be a NYT best-seller.

Poignant. Real. Beautiful. This is my second book by Erin Bomboy and I continue to be blown away by how much power she can get into a word, sentence, scene. I’ve been pulled through a full range of emotions- again.For me this wasn’t so much about the dancing as it was the dancers. That said, the attention to detail allowed me to be there in the lessons, and on the dance floor. There are two narratives in this book, Cary and Nina, both of whom I felt a deep connection with.As the story progressed and I realized that one would win and one would lose, I knew that no matter what, I would celebrate the victory and mourn the loss, because I was so torn between them. What would they do win? How far would they go for a dream? They both had such strong reasons, though one might have been noble (Mostly) and the other not so much, I didn’t judge them. I loved them. I forgave all flaws in motivations because these women were real and acted from the soul.The men! Wow, I don’t want to give away anything in this regard, but I wanted to deck them for Nina and Carly, several of them, most of them. Even the ones I adored to start with. The twists and the end just left me breathless. The whole thing left me breathless. I was literally up past four in the morning because I had to read just one more chapter… one more… one more… until the end.Bravo. Erin, this is a winner. Your readers are the winners. Thank you.

A very well written novel. The story is unconventional and not your typical predictable love story. The author has a way of making you feel the characters' pain, joy and dilemma - just like real life except this happens on the dance floor. Although I know zilch about dancing I found this book enjoyable and easy to follow. In fact I learned quite a few things about dancing from this book. I finished reading it in 2 days because I just couldn't wait to find out how it ends for Nina and Carly. This novel shows sometimes in life we've to lose some before we can win or rather find ourselves - how true.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Couldn't put it down wondering what would happen next. As a ballroom competitor, makes you think about all you sacrifice in the quest to be a champion. Well written; makes you visualize the couples in action.

The “Winner” is a winner! Engaging, exciting, and easy to read! This book is a page turner, whether or not you know (or care) anything about ballroom dance. Although the book is quite lengthy, it moves quickly. The short chapters and alternating character views give it a driving pace. I soon found myself absorbed into an alternative world of dramatic dancing, fierce competition, and sometimes sinister relationships.

A page turning drama with delightful details that bring New York City, dance, and more than a few varietals of wine to life. The characters are fully realized and seem to be people you'd actually meet about town. While the tale grows dark with depressingly real circumstance it remains at its core an enjoyable read.
