I have always been interested in the topic of aging. I have read everything from blue zones to ageless and Jillian knocks it out of the park with The 6 Keys. This is by far the most in depth book i've read on the subject and the program is comprehensive yet manageable. The science in the beginning of the book can seem a it overwhelming at first, but Jillian breaks it down in a way that makes it easier to understand, but most importantly the action steps are easier to follow.Jillian breaks down the plan into the following: Mind/Body, Nutrition, Exercise, Lifestyle, and Environment. I I particularly found the mind body section of the book fascinating and loved how she broke down all fad diets and explained what works, what doesn't and why.I can't tell you how the plan has taken years off my life yet, but I can tell you it's an eye opening read. Highly recommend it if you are interested in looking better and feeling better inside and out.

This book is sooooo good, it's beyond what I expected. I have read hundreds of other books but this one is UNIQUE. I will not write more, cause I don't want to spoil it for you, I will only add this book inspired me and it can change your life too. Choice is yours. Thank you Jillian Michaels.

I bought The Six Keys for a plane ride over the holidays and couldn't put it down. I've read a couple of Jillian's other books and know a lot about nutrition and health but was pleasantly surprised by the amount of cutting edge research featured in The Six Keys along with practical ways to live stronger and better. Jillian provides intelligent, safe ways to minimize the effects of aging in a voice that is honest and empowered and has fundamentally changed the way I think about getting older. Highly recommended!

Jillian Michaels' books are well written and researched and this one is no difference. Great book and very informative, you will find this book a great addition yo your personal library.

Just got the book today and already have learned so many helpful tips for healthy aging - including drinking wine! Unlike many health and wellness books, Jillian combines her personal humor with understandable science (damn, she did A LOT of research for this one!) and great takeaways. It's not for one type of person, it's for all of us who want to live longer and age gracefully. No better time to read than over the holidays and to use her teachings for 2019. Highly recommend.

Pretty quick read. Beware, this is not a weight loss book. Its about longevity. I didnt find much that i hadn't heard abour but the book explained the concepts well. If you like Jillian's work, you will probably enjoy this as i did.

Like the Dawn is the last book in the Lark Trilogy. Just like the previous books, Like the Dawn is action-packed. The Dark Elves are plotting to take over the kingdom of the light elves, while the light elves are trying to figure-out how to stop them.Mia is now a different person. She had to give-up her human family and Jacoby, deal with her feelings for Grey, and put up with the royals from the other kingdoms. She is doing all of that while trying to get the light elves to figure-out that in order for them to survive, they have to fight.Alberico is right by Mia's side through out this story and I love that. In a lot of YA the parents are irresponsible, shady, and seemingly unloving. Well Alberico shakes that up. He loves Mia with all of his heart. He wants what is best for her, cares about her feelings and just values her in general.This book has two amazing guys, Greyson and Jacoby. I normally don't have a problem picking a guy for the heroine in a love-triangle. I just know which one would be best for the character and then I have ones I just love myself and they aren't necessarily the same character. However the Lark Trilogy has completely broken me.I love both Grey and Jacob for very different reasons. Grey is serious and protective and would do anything to make you happy. Jacoby would also do anything to make you happy but he is also light-hearted, caring fun and he would believe you can do anything. Mia makes her choice and either way a great guy will have his heart broken.I really can't get into anymore without giving it away so I am just going to say I loved this story and the amazing world in which the trilogy took place. And I am very happy to hear that Cope is doing another book(s) set in this world. I for one cannot wait for Nightingale.

(PLEASE BE AWARE THERE ARE SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW)It was a bit predictable but I'm a sucker for a happy ending. I really like the way the book helps the reader understand why she chooses Jacoby and not Grey. It was a beautiful message of how she has grown as a person because she no longer wants to be in the shadow of someone, she wants to be their equal. I was in love with Jacoby from the very beginning. His personality just grows on you. (Like mold!) I have to admit, the death of her father was less emotional for me than I thought it would be. It didn't break my heart. It just felt so predictable. I feel like Freya's death broke my heart more. I have to admit though, a part of me is wishing for an extra or something that shares what happened to Grey. I don't like the idea of him ending up alone. I never felt like he was right for Mia. I always hoped Grey would find someone who would challenge him and make him completely awkward to the point his pokerface would break. I never felt like Mia breathed life into his character. Instead, she made him more rigid because of his need to protect her. Grey needs someone to open him up emotionally, something Mia never really did. She started to but even in the end, I felt like she never truly broke down his walls.

I have to say that I am kind of disappointed in this book. I was hoping for so much more. I loved the first two books, but I think there was a lot missing in this one. The final battle could have been way more epic. I think Mia spent too much complaining about the ball. I kind of suspected when the dark elves were going to attack and they were defeated a little too easy. I think some of the things that happened were a little too good to be true and her father could of had went out better than that. I think he should of taken Mia under his wing, it was like she hardly ever saw him. I don't like that I am just supposed to be satisfied that she's going to make an amazing Queen when she basically knows nothing about her new world. She can't even give someone a tour of the castle. It would have been better had the story been shown from different characters point of view. Jacoby's point of view should not have been an added vindicate the end. Things would have been easier to understand and a little more interesting had we seen different sides of the on going events.I don't ever remember there being a third floor that is for the queen being brought up before and then the vault. The keeper of the vault was random and the fact that the king wasn't more concerned bout the missing amulets was a bit confusing. Especially, when that's how the dark elves got through. I still don't see the point of bringing the book with the symbol on it and the relics when none were used in the actual defeat of the dark elves. It would have been better if they had figured out a way that may have defeated them. Rather than Jacoby coming out of nowhere and claiming to suddenly "see it". Mia should of been a little bit of a forwarding before he just did was he did. If there was a clue given about the lunar eclipse. Things like that were just random and really Jacoby was just going to hold off all the dark elves by himself?After the battle, I think Mia should of been the one to go get her family. How did Jacoby get their memories back? I think the part about Jacoby and Mia being soul mates was kind of ridiculous when she said herself that she had never even thought about marrying him. I get she was 18, which we were kept being reminded, but no matter your age when you find the one you know that from the beginning. You don't just start randomly feeling like he's your other half and the other half of your soul walked into the room.What was the point of bringing up the attacks on the human world, when nothing was being done about them? What was the point of worrying about there being an arranged marriages, when it was clearly never going to happen? What was up with the parents of Hugo and his father throwing those fits? What happens to Hugo? I feel like he could played more of a part.These are my thoughts and questions. I am still giving it three stars because it had some good parts and I love Mia`s sarcasm. I'm glad that her and Jacoby can finally be together. I just had higher expectations for this book.

Bought this for a baby shower wishing well gag gift, I think it's funny & so did the parents to be! If you haven't seen them already there are videos of Jennifer Garner & Samuel L Jackson reading this... it's a great funny gift for someone that has a good sense of humor!

I suppose I should start with - This is NOT a childrens bedtime book! It is a book for parents whose children refuse to go to sleep! I was shocked to find that some reviewers, apparently completely forgot to read the title of the book before purchasing. Subsequently, they also seem to have been horrificly ambushed by the fact that they have absolutely no sense of humor. For those parents who do have a sense of humor and who may not find profanity particularly offensive and who live in the real world. And have real kids. This book is definitely a 3am win!That being said...This is a totally F-ing amazing book! It's real, overworked, frustrated beyond belief, about to loose your mind at 3am, inner parent monologue. I originally bought it for a friend who was having some serious issues getting her little one to sleep. She called me after one particularly rough night & thanked me profusely for giving her the book. I guess it's nice to know that you're not alone in your child's bedtime struggles. It may not actually be all your fault and you may have a relatively normal child & are not in fact a horrible parent. A little laughter, and vulgar support, can go an awfully long way. I've since given it as a gift many times. I plan on continuing to gift it as long as the people around me continue to not learn from the couple before them and keep having babies. Who then refuse to sleep. And so on & so forth.*If you haven't already you MUST Google the celebrity reads of this book! Jennifer Garner & Samuel L. Jackson are laugh out loud funny. Samuel L. Jackson should narrate a book for every single stage of life, from being born to the grave. We'd come in & go out laughing! This book is one that will be shared from one exhausted, fed up, delusional, red eyed, sleep deprived parent to another. 'Cause sometimes all you can do is F-ing laugh. At yourself and at each other. Also, the pictures are really beautiful.

Ready for some adult humor, that will tickle most parents funny bone? Well, this little book is for you! Our son, now an adult, was the worse little offender at bedtime. His reluctance to sleep was legion in our extended family, so much so that the only time we received a good night's rest, was on the rare occasion when we had him spend the night with our relatives. I gifted the book to another parent, presented a copy to my son, and shared with one of my coworkers: the laughter was immediate and continuous. Honestly, some of the rhymes were not the best that could be imagined, but the use of such colorful language, in this context was hilariously surprising. I am reminded of someone like Betty White swearing on SNL; you will most likely be smiling now if you recall the moment! Be forewarned: if you are offended by earthy language, or the use of such language in regard to the sleeping habits of kids, this book is not for you. My grandmother, for example, would not appreciate Mr. Mansbach's book. But if you are open minded, have a funny bone and suffered through your kiddo's unwillingness to get to bed, you will find this little book a real treat! Enjoy!!!

I've now bought this book for two of my friends. One for his first child and one for his second child. This is clearly not meant to be read to the children, and is more for the parents to get a good laugh. It's very relatable to anyone who has tried to put a child to sleep and it turns in to a battle of wills. Laughter is the best medicine, and this book is full of it. Be sure to also watch the video of Sam L Jackson reading it on YouTube as it is quite humorous as well.

Has to be the most hilariously spot on book for new parents ever written! If you feel justified in throwing the first stone at this author, well, you're just not invited to my next party. Also, you lack insight. But seriously, this book is not for those of a sensitive linguistic disposition as it uses the naughtyfiretruck word in nearly every stanza. However, the beautiful watercolor illustrations and the gentle imagery are far better executed than those found in many more popular children's bedtime reads.

Every new mom/dad should get this book!! It's been proven that cursing can be good for the soul, a stress kicker, a happiness boost.. It's a harmless emotional release. And who better to blow off steam to, that the source of your current stress (completely unbeknownst to them of course)I recommend ceasing the reading of this book before age 2 when the parrot stage begins. No one wants the kid that yells the F bomb in the grocery store. This book is best suited for newborn to age 1, when you realize what a wonderful mistake you made by giving up sleep forever. You get angry, you read, you calm down, you laugh, you kiss your baby, and you wait for them to go the ... to sleep, but with a smile.You can keep it for years to come when you finally understand most of the book to calm your nerves on those rough, sleepless nights.

I love this book. It's fun just to read to myself sometimes when I need a laugh. Admittedly, I did read it to my daughter a few times while censoring myself until she repeated it and it sounded terrible even censored so now it's just for me as it was intended. Just in case anyone didnt know, this is definitely not for children, I knew that when I bought it but thought I would reiterate that here.

This book is hilarious. I love to give it for baby shower gifts. It’s also great for those nights when I am just incredibly tired and my beautiful baby boy just can’t settle down for story time.

I enjoyed the book and learned as I read this personal and honest account of a world I would have , otherwise, never known existed.

Mark Salvatore writes simple, declarative sentences.His Peace Corps memoir, Shade of the Paraiso, is stripped to fact and detail, observation and truth. Even its replication of time — passing slowly at first, building inexorably over months, then racing quickly to its conclusion — makes the narrative foremost a work of literary control.It’s an art, how much the writer reveals of his existence in rural Paraguay — all the while revealing little of his own true emotions.The closest we get to knowing Salvatore is to appreciate his obvious fortitude in the face of familiar Peace Corps challenges: the petty counterpart; the bullying ‘big-man’; the general estrangement from community; the recurring uncertainty. Even the elements, wind and rain and mud, conspire against him.We experience these things, but rarely learn how Salvatore feels about them. Exhibit A, this passage about his garden:'I finished and seeded the soil of two tablones on a warm, clear day with a wind from the east. I planted garlic, onions, parsley, carrots, green chili, bell peppers, and tomatoes.' Soon after . . . 'I hauled water from the well to my bathroom and took a bucket bath. Great book. A great guide to the waterways and rivers of Central to South Florida. The book was written in 1999 but the information is still good today. IT is easy to read, excellent diagrams (maps) of the rivers. Very useful information if you want to discover new places to paddle throughout South Florida.

This is a really good book for kayakers, if you are not familiar with the area or the weather habits. Each location in Florida is a little different. From tides to weather. What I like about it is it gives you alot of info BEFORE you get out there. This helps make the kayaking adventure more fun, as you are more prepared and aware. If you are not familiar with the area, get this book! I live here in FL, and travel all around. Fortunately, I am already aware of the majority of the info in this book. I was merely looking for more areas to use the kayaks. If you are a beginner, or from out of state...get this book before you head out and become a statistic! ha ha. But really, some good preperation and info will help with a great day of kayaking in the many great areas of Florida!

Nigel Foster has finally turned his excellent writing skills to South Florida. Having kayaked in South Florida for the past 6 years, I have personally done most of the trips described in the book. Mr. Foster's descriptions are brief, but his attention to detail, and excellent on-water guides make the book very useful. Short accounts of the history of some areas (i.e., "The Watson Mystery") enliven the book. It is written in the style of a travel guide - a bit unusual for a guide to kayak touring, but it lends itself to the area. His "Caution" tips, e.g., "Watch out for racoons at your picnic site." are well-chosen. Trip ratings are very reasoned and appropriate, e.g., "Paddling the outer coast is committing, with exposure to the Gulf...Waves across Whitewater Bay generally produce a short chop...No one lives in this area, and there's no way out of it except at the camping sites...." A concisely written book. Well done!

Thank you Nigel Foster for such a complete and wonderful guide! I have been to a few areas in Florida, and can not wait to go this February and "try" out a few more of the recommended trips. A friend and I are going to go to Ding Darling Refuge and the Black Island (Lover's Key) trip at the very least. The trip descriptions have me longing for my vacation to get here. Very good maps, and I appreciate the section on places to stay and camp!

Prince Edward and Wallis Simpson. Either a Shakespearean farce or a tragedy from beginning to end.I have always held some skepticism and admittedly a few prejudices towards Wallis and Edward and their so called fairytale romance. The man who gave up his kingship for the woman he loved.Pasternak paints a different picture from what I was used to and I must admit to being touched, particularly at Wallis' last days and the pettiness of the court in not letting her be referred to as HRH in those latter years.Embattled on all sides, determined to marry Wallis, Edward steamed ahead and to some extent his bluff was called. I did shed some tears at the end struck by the misery that Wallis, a perectionist was forced to endure. And I did admire that Edward refused a morganatic marriage. He wanted to be honest with his subjects and true to his idea of marriage. Pasternak won me a tad more to Edwards side with that revelation.The abdication seems to entail a complexity of situations, missed opportunities, and misjudgement on all sides. As it's told, Baldwin didn't want Edward to be king and the intelligence community also had their doubts about him. Winston Churchill wanted him to hang in there. The royal courtiers are blamed as are the Queen Mother and Elizabeth for the continued angst and pettiness towards the couple. I understand why the Royal Elizabeth's were cross enough to cut Edward off the Christmas list, and why. Wallis was obviously 'that woman.'So Pasternak had me examining my feelings towards Wallis and Edward, and even the idea of them being Nazi sympathizers was questioned, although being self absorbed was not! From Pasternak 's point of view they were just being used. And yet they were close friends of Diana Mosley and the Mitford sisters, met with Hitler and some of his henchman. In fact Edward delighted in the way he and Wallis were treated royally on their visit to Germany. And it seems Edward really only wanted to speak German. He admired them and apparently even after the generosity of the French Government towards the couple, Edward still mostly spoke in German. Edward just doesn't come across as being empathetic to the times and occasions. Self absorption is a way of life.However the normal man in the street loved him. They felt understood by him. The reports of his meetings with the workers paint an admirable picture.I still maintain that if Wallis was as canny as indicated, she would have known what was going on, or did Wallis and Edward live too much in their own little cocooned world with its secretive language and endless letters. And oh my, the money Edward spent on jewelry for Wallis!Wallis however still remains an enigma. Did she really just go along for the ride until she found herself in so deep she couldn't get out?I must say though I was enthralled by the fashion discussionsAnything cut on the bias always says sleek and stylish to me, and Wallis was definitely a fashion diva.There's some great reported throwaway lines by the couple.In this day and age their actions wouldn't have turned a hair. But back in the 1930's they scandalized the rest of the world, and the English nation, when the press finally stopped being gentlemanly.So where am I? I still don't like them, but I had moments of being sorry for them and the choices they made. Choices that dug them into a hole a little deeper each time.Am I glad Edward didn't remain as king. Yes, despite Pasternak's well researched presentation. Do I have more sympathy with and understanding of Wallis Simpson, despite still not really liking her, Yes!An Atria Books ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

A couple of months ago I listened to a great History Chicks podcast about Wallis Simpson that really piqued my interest, although I’ve always been on Team George VI, myself. One of the History Chicks’ great strengths is that — although always very thorough — they are never catty about their subjects, always sympathetic and empathetic. So, when NetGalley offered me an opportunity to read an ARC copy and review this bio, I was very eager to do so. The first thing to know about this book is that it is in no way, shape, or form an unbiased account. Pasternak is unabashedly Team Wallis & David from the very first page. This put me in the unusual position of mentally ‘answering back’ when Pasternak threw softballs at the duo. Wallis or David would do something rotten, then Pasternak would spend a couple sentences explaining exactly why they did it — because Wallis was under such a terrible strain, or because David just loved Wallis so darned much. I’m obviously not as empathetic or sympathetic as the History Chicks — I found Wallis & David to be a rather unlikeable pair. Pasternak conveys enough of their personalities to convince me why people who knew them really liked them. And she certainly managed to put to bed most of the really scurrilous rumors (which I never believed anyway). But they just weren’t estimable people, no matter how she tried to spin them. Charm is not the same as goodness. Wallis & David were charming, not good. They were self centered and greedy and, when given the chance to be useful, they almost always chose not to be. All that said, it was a heck of a fun, dishy read and I really enjoyed it. I’d certainly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this sort of thing.

I have been absolutely fascinated with Wallis Simpson from the first time that I heard of her. I've read all the books and watched every movie I could find about her and Edward, the Prince of Wales. I was so intrigued that a King would give up his throne for an American divorcee, who was not particularly attractive. As I read this book, it contains so much more than what we have been told. The drama of the relationship and their life is explained in detail. I believed he truly loved her. Giving up the crown was a duty, he felt he owed and was not given up lightly. After this happened, life wasn't one big party for them as they lived in exile a great deal of the time. I was honored to be able to read this book from Net Galley and Atria Publishing for a honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.

A well written biography of Wallis Simpson. The author purports that Wallis wasn't all the nasty things that's have been said about her and that she never really wanted to marry Edward. She did not convince me. Wallis was not innocent and played a role in the demise of her second marriage and her affair with the king. Still, it's an interesting theory, but one I don't agree with. #NetGalley This was a very well researched and impressive book about Wallis Simpson and the former King Edward VIII. I am not exactly sure it was a new history, because most of the facts are known, but probably a somewhat different slant. However you present their affair, marriage, and life together it remains a tragedy and not happy reading.It was quite comprehensive, perhaps too much so, and offered perhaps new evidence for the rift between the Prince and former king and his brothers. Financial insecurity, the fact that "David's brother did not want to be King and the antipathy of King George's wife led to a lifetime estrangement. The book was very well done and painstakingly researched. I enjoyed the earlier chapters of Wallis' life prior to coming to England the best. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
